Half a tonne of weapons and bombs destroyed in Tawergha, Libya 16/01/19
Since November 2018, Humanity & Inclusion's six weapons specialists have removed 150 explosive devices from the streets of Tawergha, a city south of Misrata, Libya. Team leader Simon Elmont tells us more about the organisation’s work.

Libya: Supporting children marked by war 17/10/16
Handicap International has been running operations in Libya since 2011. The organisation is now focused on helping children in Tripoli. Every day our mobile team reaches out to children with rehabilitation needs. And an awareness-raising campaign about psychosocial risks and the inclusion of children with disabilities will benefit more than 3,000 people.

Libya: Helping children traumatised by five years of war 24/08/16
Handicap International has been working in Libya since 2011. Due to the country’s extreme political and security instability the organisation relocated its operation to Tunis in July 2014. Anne Barthès who has been leading the mission since February 2016, reflects on the programmes currently being run by Handicap International, five years after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.

Combating weapons proliferation and armed violence 01/04/16
The Arms Trade Treaty was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 2nd April 2013, an important step in the fight against weapons proliferation. Handicap International is working in 20 countries to raise awareness of the risks posed by small arms and explosive remnants of war.

Weapons: a daily threat to people’s lives 18/02/16
The fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 and Libya’s descent into chaos has led to a proliferation of arms and an escalation in fighting between militia groups. In response, Handicap International is providing the population with risk education on firearms, mines and explosive remnants of war. Over the last four years, the organisation has educated 120,000 people at greatest risk from these weapons, most of them children.
